Foods you should limit • Sodium- High sodium diet can increase blood pressure. Examples of high sodium food items include: processed foods, deli meats, frozen meals, canned soups, and preserved vegetables. • Sugar- Excessive sugar intake increases your chance of weight gain and obesity. Examples of high sugar items include: candy, cakes, processed fruit juices, and soft drinks. • Caffeine- Caffeine can negatively impact people with hypertension and prehypertension because it temporarily spikes your blood pressure. Examples of high caffeine items include:sodas, caffeinated teas, and coffee.

Drinks you should limit • Alcohol- Too much alcohol intake can increase your blood pressure. If you drink alcoholic beverages, drink only a moderate amount. For Example: one drink a day for women and two for men. • Whole Milk- is a good source of calcium but contains more fat than is required. Whole milk contains 8 grams of total fat and 5 grams of saturated fat. Better choices are 2%, 1%, or skim milk.

Samples of exercise Being active is one of the most important things you can do to prevent or control high blood pressure. All you need is 30 minutes of moderate-level physical activity on most days of the week. You can divide the 30 minutes into shorter periods of 10 minutes each. For example: Brisk walking Bicycling Gardening Walking 2 miles in 30 minutes (Google images)
