Incidences CDC notes 40% of people with HIV are African Americans. In 2009, African Americans accounted for 44% of new cases (Phillips et al., 2021). In 2016, it was 40% of new cases (CDC, n.d.). 1 in 16 black men and 1 in 32 black women are diagnosed with HIV in 2009. 1 in 2 gay and bisexual men, 1 in 20 African American men, and 1 in 48 African women were diagnosed with HIV in their lifetime in 2016 (CDC, n.d.). This number of those living with HIV is at least 8 times more than Caucasians (Phillips et al., 2021). African Americans are dying close to 10 times that of whites.

Incidences African American men had highest new infection rates Eighty percent of these were among bisexual and gay men. The numbers show 12,200 new infections for the men and 4200 women The age group most affected were those between 25 and 34 years (CDC, n.d.). More needs to be done to help improve awareness Only 85% are diagnosed and 60% are receiving care (CDC, n.d.). Another 46% are virally suppressed and 46% retained in care. Awareness helps improve information on proper protection process.

Environment, Genetic, And/Or Lifestyle Factors The environment creates a different perception of the spread. Years of oppression and increased incarceration are a concern. They expose the African Americans to risks. Economic deprivation leaves many women vulnerable to sex-for-money (Phillips et al., 2021). Inadequate access to medical and social care deprives them education. Lack of cultural competence also hinders proper use of interventions.

Environment, Genetic, And/Or Lifestyle Factors Proper cultural measures are necessary to shape the discourse. Issue of survival may be derailing HIV-related interventions. Survival creates beliefs that HIV was government-sponsored to kill blacks. Thus, testing and treatments are avoided. Beliefs on family planning need address (Tawandraet al., 2016). Blacks have a reduction in condom use for many. Propriety/conservative aspects of moral need a deeper reflection. Religious views may hinder some from seeking help (Tawandraet al., 2016).

Environment, Genetic, And/Or Lifestyle Factors Incarceration is also ruining many lives. Prison environment is a challenge for many of the affected individuals. Prisoners engage in tattooing, high risk sexual activities and drug use. When they return to communities they face stigma (Visconti et al., 2019). The community health programs do not offer them a better outreach.

Environment, Genetic, And/Or Lifestyle Factors The lifestyle is a concern among African Americans. In many low-income settlements, police do not bother with drug sales and commercial sex markets. Here, risks increase for contracting HIV (Visconti et al., 2019). Drug use affects ability to indulge in safe sex. Injecting behaviors expose the drug users to HIV due to shared needles.
