Methods & Subjects

Study Subjects The study included 377 medical students, with age ranging from 18 to 26 years old. There were 288 males and 89 females. Study Design And Setting A cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted on Medical students at Faculty of Medicine in Port Said governorate. Sampling Procedure Data was collected by nonrandom convenient sampling technique.

Data was collected from an online self-administered questionnaire using Google forms online software. The content of this questionnaire was adapted from previously published validated questionnaire.then it was translated into the Arabic language.

Data analysis Results of the questionnaire was extracted using Excel and then imported and analyzed using SPSS version 26 The process of data analysis consists of: ▪ Descriptive statistics was applied in numerical form; mean (standard deviation) for quantitative data and number (%) for qualitative data. Graphs and tables will be used when appropriate. ▪ Data was presented as required according to the type of variables

Ethical Considerations 1. Participation in this study is voluntary, and an electronic online informed consent form was obtained from each participant. 2. Data will be kept safe, and no personal data will be published. 3. Feedback about the results of the study will be given to those who care at the end of the result.

Conclusion This study revealed that a considerable proportion of the medical students at Port Said University demonstrated poor to fair knowledge regarding burn first aid, with only 7.4% achieving an excellent knowledge level. Despite this, attitudes toward fire prevention and control practices were generally positive, as many students expressed the need for safety measures like smoke alarms and evacuation plans, even if they were not always present in their residences. College curriculum emerged as the main source of information on burn first aid (39.5%), followed by the Internet (27.3%), indicating the importance of formal education and accessible digital resources in shaping students’ awareness. Notably, clinical year students showed significantly better knowledge than those in preclinical years, underscoring the role of experience and exposure in enhancing first aid competencies.

Recommendations Implement mandatory workshops using mannequins or standardized patients for burn assessment and first aid. Introduce burn first aid education early in pre-clinical years and reinforce through peer mentorship programs. Develop and distribute evidence-based content (videos, infographics, quizzes) for self-learning. Promote use of trusted medical platforms and discourage reliance on unverified sources. Launch university-led fire safety campaigns and partner with authorities for public drills and demos. Advocate for burn prevention policies and conduct multi-center research to inform national strategies.
