About This Presentation

Description : Check out this medical PowerPoint presentation titled "Antiviral drugs" by S.Bohlooli, PhD.

This medical PowerPoint presentation is about antiviral drugs which are medications that are used to treat viral infections. They work by either preventing the virus from replicating or by destroying the virus. Some examples of antiviral drugs include:

Acyclovir: Used to treat herpes simplex virus infections, as well as varicella-zoster virus infections.
Oseltamivir: Used to treat influenza A and B viruses.
Ribavirin: Used to treat respiratory syncytial virus infections and hepatitis C.
Zidovudine: Used to treat HIV infections.
Ganciclovir: Used to treat cytomegalovirus infections.

It is important to note that not all viral infections can be treated with antiviral drugs, and some viruses have developed resistance to certain antiviral medications. Additionally, these medications may have side effects and should only be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

Replicative cycle of HIV-1, an example of a retrovirus, showing the sites of action of antiviral agents. Various antiviral agents are shown in blue. Key: RT, reverse transcriptase; cDNA, complementary DNA; mRNA, messenger RNA; Tat, a protein that regulates viral transcription and affects the rate of replication; RNaseH, ribonuclease H; gp120, envelope glycoprotein.
