Acupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by a licensed and trained practitioner. The needles used are sterile, disposable, and very thin, so the insertion is usually painless or causes only mild discomfort. Some people may experience mild side effects such as bruising, soreness, or bleeding at the needle site, but serious complications are rare.

However, acupuncture may not be suitable for everyone, and it is important to talk to your healthcare provider before trying it, especially if you have a bleeding disorder, take blood-thinning medications, or have a pacemaker.
