About This Presentation

Description : There is a growing body of evidence supporting the efficacy of non- pharmaceutical approaches in the management of migraine, including nutraceutical, physical and behavioral therapies. Our aim is to evaluate the prophylactic effect of combination of nutraceuticals and relaxation methods in the migraine prophylaxis.

Material – Method Design: randomized- controlled trial Setting: Headache outpatient clinic of Eginition Hospital Time: Jan 2017- Μarc 2017 Measures: Questionnaire of sociodemographic data, headache diary, pain 0–10 scale Primary outcomes:frequency and intensity of the headache episodes after the combination of nutraceuticals (Coenzyme Q10, Riboflavin, Petasites hybridus 400mg each) and relaxation intervention (n = 20) or a control arm (standard care n =20) for two months. Inclusion criteria Patients aged 18-70 years old Fulfilling ICHD3beta criteria for migraine Exclusion criteria: Others types of primary headaches 3

4 Results Within the treatment arm, frequency and intensity of the headache episodes were all significantly reduced. Migraine frequency increased during the study period (p=0.009) in the control group, possibly suggesting that the continuation of the patients’ previous medication did not have an effect on the frequency of headaches. Significant difference was found in the intensity of the migraine (p<0.001). For the first time, combination of nutraceutical and relaxation was reported to benefit migraine patients. Expansion of those non- pharmaceutical methods in other types of headaches (e.g cluster headache) is another field that should draw attention and interest.
