This is what I look like! Known for their red color, The red cells are the most abundant cell in the blood, making up for about 45 percent of its volume. The blood cell is a biconcave disk with a flattened center in other words, both faces of the disc have shallow bowl-like indentations (a red blood cell looks like a donut).

This is were I am made. The body makes around two million red blood cells every second. Which is incredible in itself! And this is how I am made Red blood cells are formed in the red bone marrow of bones. Stem cells in the red bone marrow called hemocytoblasts give rise to all the formed elements in blood. There are several different types of me! Blood cells are broadly classified into three types: 1) red blood cells (RBCs), 2) white blood cells (WBCs), and 3) platelets, together they make up 45% of the total blood volume. (Science Facts Staff, www.sciencefacts.net, 07/03/2020)

This is my job in the body. Red blood cells carry oxygen, nutrients, waste, and all the necessary vitamins to keep the body alive. It carries oxygen from our lungs to the rest of our bodies. Then they make the return trip, taking carbon dioxide back to our lungs to be exhaled.

Now let's explore my life cycle. As we know my life begins in the bone marrow. Next it travels through several places to get to the lungs to be oxygenated, then it travels on through more veins, the heart and more to provide oxygen throughout the body to help keep Liling alive.

The harm of too many of me. If there are to many red blood cells in Liling’s body, it can cause the blood to thicken in result of that there is a possibility of blood clots or blood getting oxygen to the body in the right amount of time due to being slower.

This is what could happen if there not enough of me in the body. Having a low blood count can cause you to be anemia! Some of the symptoms of this can be Heart Palpitations, fatigue, dizziness, and shortness of breath. It can be life threating if left untreated, it will lead to serious medical complications!

What could happen to you? Red blood cell can release unbound forms of iron-carrying hemoglobin, which can cause kidney injury, and can cause anemia, reducing the delivery of oxygen to tissues if they are damaged. If red blood cells are damage, they will overwhelm the body's ability to clear aged red blood cells, toxic levels of free iron can be released.
