1. Forensic 2. Forensic Science: Forensic Chemistry: Definition Scope History 3. Development in the Philippines 4. Forensic Chemists: role in criminal investigation 5. Golden Rule in the Practice of Forensic Chemistry 6. Introduction to Physical Evidences Topics on Board:
Slide 3-

The Chemistry Division of the PNP Crime Laboratory was: established in 1960 under the name Physical Science Division with the mission to respond to the need for scientific examination of Physical Evidences. February 2000, Physical Science Division was split into two, Chemistry and Physical Division Development of Forensic Chemistry in the Philippines
Slide 4-

Physical Science Division Chemistry Division = examines substances ( Body Fluids) using analytical techniques Physical Division = it handles trajectory and trace evidences (shoe and tire impression, finger prints, ballistics , handwriting etc .)
Slide 5-

Every substance at a crime scene which could contain trace elements of chemicals can find its way to the laboratory bench of a forensic chemist for a closer look for examination. A forensic chemist is a professional chemist who analyzes evidence that is brought in from crime scenes and reaches a conclusion based on tests run on that piece of evidence Forensic Chemist:Role in Criminal Investigation
Slide 6-

A forensic chemist 1. is a chemist who applies his or her skills to the analysis of evidence from crime scenes in addition to performing obvious analyses such as investigations into chemicals found at a crime scene 2. forensic chemists are involved in DNA analysis, arson investigations, and a variety of other types of forensic activities. 3. Chemists also test unknown substances, determining what they are and whether or not they are dangerous. 4. Knowledge of Physics might take a forensic chemist to a crime scene to look at blood patterns to determine how accidental or intentional injury occurred.
Slide 8-

5. Forensic chemists may work at scenes where explosions or fires have occurred, to try to determine what happened. As much as they may be evaluating a scene to decide if a crime took place, they might be able to rule out malicious intent, through examining patterns of fire, and looking for certain chemicals associated with bomb making arson.
Slide 9-

> Forensic chemists are trained in organic chemistry, so that they can run analysis on blood and other body samples to identify DNA, and to run toxicology screens. They therefore look at matter from the chemist’s point of view to glean greater information about a substance, person, or crime, for a variety of reasons.
Slide 10-

People who earn degrees in forensic chemistry may work at private labs, local police departments, coroner’s offices, fire departments, with bomb squads, in the military, or at national agencies like the FBI or CIA. Some are specialists in certain kinds of identification — forensic chemists might become experts on chemicals associated with explosives, for instance. At minimum, those in the field of forensic chemistry have bachelor’s degrees. Those who want to teach in the field or develop new investigatory techniques may have master’s degrees or PhDs.
