About This Presentation

Description : The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses has classified the PVs into 53 genera, among which only 5 genera include PVs that infect humans (HPVs): alpha, beta, gamma, mu, and nu. The genus gamma includes the majority of the known HPVs, with 99 types, followed by the genera alpha and beta. In order to be classified as a new PV type, there must be a less than 90% DNA base-pair homology with other PVs. During the past decade, there has been an exponential increase in the identification of new beta- and gamma-HPVs that have been discovered by next-generation sequencing. More than 200 different HPV types have been listed by the International HPV Reference Center, and this number continues to expand. A recent study reported the identification of the complete genome of 83 previously unknown HPV types, among which 69 were classified as gamma.

Endometrial HPV Infection Initial infection of the endometrium is cleared by regular menstrual shedding. Lack of menstrual shedding, endometrial decidualization during pregnancy contributes to HPV persistence and growth. Pregnancy has previously been described as a state of immune suppression, facilitating the survival of the fetus but also increasing the susceptibility to HPV and making it more difficult to clear HPV infections. Endometrium could represent a reservoir of HPV infection.

This study is part of a project PN-III-P1-1.2-PCCDI-2017-0820, MiMoSa The main purpose of this project is the development of a microarray platform using gold structures. This will be utilized for the specific detection (through fluorescence and SPR) of HPV strains in pregnant women. The obtained information will facilitate the statistical evaluation of the involvement of HPV infection in premature births.
