About This Presentation

Description : The reproductive system of an organism is the biological system made up of all the anatomical organs involved in sexual reproduction. It is also known as the genital system. Many non-living substances such as fluids, hormones, and pheromones are also important accessories to the reproductive system.

Reproductive System “One of the aims of sexual union is procreation - the creation by reproduction of an image of itself, or the union” - Mortimer Adler
Slide 2-

What is Reproductive system? “The reproductive system is a collection of internal and external organs — in both males and females — that work together for the purpose of procreating,” - The Clveland clinic The reproductive system of an organism is the biological system made up of all the anatomical organs involved in sexual reproduction. Can also be called “the genital system” Many non-living substances such as fluids, hormones, and pheromones are also important accessories to the reproductive system.

Slide 7-

Function Producing, maintaining, and transporting sperm and protective fluid Discharging sperm within the female reproductive tract during sex Producing and secreting male sex hormones.
Slide 8-

Hormones The entire male reproductive system is dependent on hormones. The primary hormones involved in the male reproductive system are follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and testosterone
Slide 9-

Function of hormones Follicle stimulating hormne is needed for spermproduction Lutenizing hormone is needed for testosterone production Testoterone is needed for developing male characteristics, including muscle mass and strength, fat distribution, bone mass, facial hair growth, voice change, and sex drive.

Menstrual cycle The average menstrual cycle takes about 28 days and occurs in three phases: Those phases are : The follicular phase, the ovulatory phase (Ovulation), and the luteal phase.
Slide 13-

Follicular phase Starts from 1st day of menstrual cycle Follicular stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone release from brain and reach to uterus through blood, stimulating growth of 15-20 eggs in ovaries each in its own shell called follicle. Trigger an increase in production of estrogen As the phase progress, one follicle become dominant and continue to mature and produce estrogen and remaining others die
Slide 14-

Ovarian Phase Starts after 14 days of follicular phase The rise of the estrogen from that dominant follicle trigger a surge in the production of lutenizing hormone, resulting in releasing egg from that dominant follicle into ovaries Also in this stage amount and thickness of mucous that secretes from cervix increase , facillating the movement of sperm towards eggs.
Slide 15-

Luteal phase Starts right after ovarian phase After releasing egg , that dominant follicle become empty and develop corpus loteum That corpus loteum secrets progesterone that prepares the uterus for a fertilized egg to implant If conception occurs, fertilized egg will travel through fallopian tube to uterus Otherwise unfertilized egg will pass through uterus.
Slide 16-

Hormone Follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, estrogen and progesterone Human chorionic gonadotropin Human menopausal gonadotropin
Slide 17-

Function Follicle-stimulating hormone is needed for follicle growth Lutenizing hormone helps control the menstrual cycle Estrogens are responsible for maturation and maintenance of the vagina and uterus, and are also involved in ovarian function Human chorionic gonadotropin needed to produce corpus luteum when estrogen is low. Human menopausal gonadotropin is needed for he treatment of fertility disturbances
