What is prenatal care? Prenatal care refers to the health care provided to a pregnant woman throughout pregnancy until labor. It is a screening program created for early and continuing risk assessment, health promotion, medical and psychosocial intervention and follow-ups.

Factors affecting prenatal care services utilization Some factors or barriers may affect the utilization of antenatal care assistance. The Role of Risk Assessment All over the world, the antenatal care programs are based on the assessment of risks, screening and providing identification and treatment. Early intervention is more effective than waiting and treating overt disease. A pregnant woman receives prenatal care positive effects towards future pregnancies and newborn care.

Conclusions Lack of prenatal care could lead to a higher risk for health outcomes for both mother and her baby. Early start of prenatal care and its adequate utilization could decrease the current maternal mortality rate. Underutilization of prenatal care services at the greatest degree has been seen among Roma communities. higher rate of high risk pregnancy in non-Roma due to the lack/inadequacy of prenatal visits among Roma. cigarette smoking, very common among Roma pregnant women. A large number of underage pregnancies has been noticed among Roma women. The most common modality of delivery for Roma women is vaginal delivery Roma think prenatal examinations, patients-doctor relationship are not fundamental, they are not worried about fetus health and their family help is the prominent feature. knowledge assessment about prenatal care confirmed that the socio-economic status affects the knowledge of antenatal healthcare.
