About This Presentation

Description : Check out this medical PowerPoint presentation titled "Oh my aching back" by Mark A. Giovanini MD.

This medical PowerPoint presentation is about the spine, a complex structure that runs from the base of the skull to the tailbone. It is composed of 33 vertebrae, which are separated by intervertebral discs, and is divided into five regions: the cervical spine (neck), thoracic spine (upper back), lumbar spine (lower back), sacrum, and coccyx.

Back pain is a common complaint and can have a variety of causes. The most common causes of back pain include muscle strains, ligament sprains, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and osteoarthritis. Poor posture, obesity, and lack of exercise can also contribute to back pain.

The cervical spine is the most mobile region of the spine and is responsible for supporting the head and neck. It is also vulnerable to injury and degenerative changes due to its mobility and the weight it supports.

The thoracic spine is the least mobile region of the spine and is responsible for supporting the rib cage and protecting the internal organs.

The lumbar spine is the most common site of back pain and is responsible for supporting the weight of the upper body. It is also the site of most disc herniations and spinal stenosis.

The sacrum and coccyx are fused bones at the base of the spine that provide stability and support for the pelvis.

If you are experiencing back pain, it is important to consult with a healthcare provider to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment. Treatment options may include physical therapy, medications, injections, or surgery.
