About This Presentation

Description : Check out this medical PowerPoint presentation titled "MANAGEMENT OF NORMAL LABOUR AND DELIVERY” by Dr Nabeel Bondagji.

This medical PowerPoint presentation is about management of normal labour and delivery.

The management of normal labour and delivery typically involves several key components, including:

Antenatal care: Prenatal care is essential to identify and manage any potential risks or complications during labour and delivery. Antenatal care should include regular check-ups, ultrasounds, and prenatal education to prepare the mother for labour and delivery.
Monitoring during labour: Monitoring the mother and baby during labour is critical to ensure safe delivery. This may include measuring contractions, fetal heart rate monitoring, and assessing the mothers progress in labour.
Pain management: Pain management is an important aspect of labour and delivery. Options may include non-pharmacological techniques such as relaxation, breathing exercises, and massage, as well as pharmacological options such as epidural anesthesia.
Support during labour: Emotional and physical support during labour can help the mother to cope with the pain and stress of labour. This may include the presence of a partner or support person, as well as a trained healthcare professional such as a midwife or doula.
Delivery: Delivery may be vaginal or by cesarean section depending on the circumstances. The healthcare provider should follow established protocols for safe delivery, including monitoring for signs of fetal distress and managing complications such as shoulder dystocia.
Postpartum care: After delivery, the mother and baby should receive postpartum care to monitor for complications such as postpartum hemorrhage or infection, and to provide support for breastfeeding and newborn care.

Overall, the management of normal labour and delivery involves a team-based approach, with the mother, healthcare providers, and support persons working together to ensure the safest and most comfortable delivery possible.

MECHANICS OF LBOUR, OR, HOW DOES THE HEAD NEGOTIATE THE PELVIS? (1) change it’s shape and size (moulding) (2) change it’s position (flexion and rotation)
Slide 9-

ANATOMY OF THE FETAL HEAD Largest and least compressible part of the fetus therefore the most important obstetrically Comprises of (1) base of skull (ossified, non compressible, protecting brain stem) (2) cranium (a) bones: occipital, 2 parietal, 2 frontal and 2 temporal interconnected with membrane; therefore compressible (b) sutures (where the bones meet): saggital, lambdoid, coronal © fontanelles (where the sutures meet): ant and post The compressibility of the fetal skull means the bones can overlap (moulding) in order for the skull to change shape negotiating the maternal pelvis
