Diabetes: Diabetes is a chronic condition in which the body is unable to properly regulate blood sugar levels. There are two types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the bodys immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, while type 2 diabetes is a condition in which the body becomes resistant to insulin, leading to high blood sugar levels.

Prediabetes: Prediabetes is a condition in which blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. People with prediabetes are at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, as well as other health problems such as heart disease and stroke.

Metabolic syndrome: Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that occur together, including high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol levels. Having metabolic syndrome increases the risk of developing heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.

All three conditions can be managed and, in some cases, prevented through lifestyle changes such as healthy eating, regular exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight. People with diabetes may also need to take medications and monitor their blood sugar levels to keep their condition under control.

Dealing with discordance in results Many people identified as having diabetes using A1C will not be identified as having diabetes by traditional glucose criteria, and vice versa.
