Slide 2-

Flattened J-shaped organ Located in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen Proximally: Esophagus Distally: Duodenum stomach 3 MAIN FUNCTIONS: Stores food Mixes food w/ gastric secretions forming chyme Control the rate of delivery of chyme
Slide 3-

stomach TWO OPENINGS: Cardiac orifices Pyloric orifices TWO CURVATURE: Greater Curvature Lesser Curvature TWO SURFACES: Anterior Surface Posterior Surface relatively fixed at both ends but very mobile in between SHORT , OBESE - high and transversely TALL, THIN - elongated vertically
Slide 4-

stomach MAJOR PARTS: Fundus Cardia Corpus (Body) Antrum Pylorus GASTROESOPHAGEAL JUNCTION: point where tubular esophagus becomes the saccular stomach
Slide 5-

function of pyloric sphincter controls the outflow of gastric contents into duodenum sphincter receives motor fibers from and inhibitory fibers from vagi pylorus is controlled by local nervous and hormonal influence from the stomach and duodenal walls Mucous Membrane thick and vascular thrown into numerous folds or rugae (longitudinal) folds flatten out when stomach is distended Muscular walls contains: Longitudinal fibers Circular fibers Oblique fibers Peritoneum Completely surrounds stomach
