What we already know Habitual physical activity and exercise; Decrease pulmonary exacerbations Decrease hospitalisations Improve respiratory function Improve QoL Decrease rate of decline of lung function - Preferred method of airway clearance by patients
Slide 4-

Why is it important? James Lind Alliance (top 10 research questions asked by patients and HCP with CF) Patients aren’t waiting for our recommendation (they are going ahead and replacing conventional methods of AC with exercise). As HCP we are unable to advise/prescribe or recommend certain amount – is this a good or bad thing? We have no recommended standard/prescription It is a safe, easily accessible, cost effective strategy to improve respiratory health in patients with CF ** we are in the DARK as clinicians

Discussion around HCP experience Do you prescribe exercise? Is it discussed at all? What questions are patients asking you? What would you as clinicians like to have answered by research in this field?

Optimal research study/Trial RCT Minimum duration of 6 months Important outcomes – Lung function, exercise capacity, number of hospitalisations, QoL, patient preference, adherence,
