About This Presentation

Description : Check out this medical titled "Viruses”.

This medical is about viruses, small infectious agents that can only replicate inside the cells of other organisms. Viruses are not considered alive because they cannot carry out any metabolic activities on their own and require a host cell to reproduce. They are composed of genetic material (DNA or RNA) enclosed in a protein coat called a capsid.

When a virus infects a host cell, it uses the hosts cellular machinery to replicate its genetic material and produce new virus particles. Some viruses can cause diseases in humans, animals, and plants, while others do not cause any harm.

The study of viruses is called virology, and it is a field of microbiology. Scientists have identified thousands of different viruses, and many viral diseases have been successfully treated or prevented with vaccines. However, viruses can mutate rapidly, which can make them difficult to control or treat.

Slide 3-

Properties of a virus A virus is a very small, infectious, obligate intracellular parasite Virus particles are not living Viruses are chemicals, and by themselves cannot reproduce A susceptible and permissive cellular host is needed for viruses to reproduce All viruses must make mRNA that can be translated by host ribosomes
