Introduction: Obesity it is the accumulation of excess body fat , the most prevalent way of measuring obesity is calculating BMI. To produce a radiographic image two parameters (mAs, kVp) are selected
Slide 3-

body mass index body thickness penetrability image quality. So an additional kVp is needed to overcome this effect and obtain a diagnostic image. But kVp scattered image quality, and increases patient dose(5).

Figure 2. low quality chest radiograph in an obese patient
Slide 6-

Obese and overweight people are more susceptible to different types of diseases. Chest radiographs provide us Information about chest structure and the organs within, which helps with the diagnosis
Slide 7-

objective to find a correlation between obesity as measured by BMI and image quality and its diagnostic ability to diseases associated with obese patients.
Slide 8-

Methodology: This was a cross sectional study. Conducted at three hospitals Our 100 samples were a convenient sample that are patients over 18 years old
Slide 9-

we picked chest radiography as a target for two reasons: They are the most requested in the department it’s the most image affected by the change of the BMI.
Slide 10-

We only performed the standard posterior anterior projection chest radiograph. The data was collected by a questioner that contained two parts: one is about patient’s personal information other part was about technical factors
Slide 11-

we developed an index to evaluate the image quality by giving the image a number between (1-3) depending on its Diagnostic ability
Slide 12-

Result: There was 49 male and 51 female enrolled. median age = 52 y median BMI =27.47 kg/m2 There was an overall negative correlation (r = -0.525, p < 0.0001).
Slide 13-

there was a significant decreases in quality of the image in obese patients. patient’s ability to stand and stay still was eliminated as a confounding patient’s ability to take a deep breath had a significant relation with image quality (p-value= 0.002, r = -0.303)
Slide 14-

relation between sex and image quality, p-value was 0.151 the chest height with p-value0.0001 >
Slide 15-

in our study we use both digital system (CR, DR) while trying nearing tube ages, so we can remove it’s effect.
Slide 16-

Limitation: This study had several limitations: Time/sample size literature review Accuracy of the collected data image quality index RTs were not blinded
