NERVOUS SYSTEM I CNS (Central Nervous System) Segmentation PNS (Peripheral Nervous System) Spinal Nerves Neuron Types Autonomic Nervous System (how many nervous systems are there anyways?)
Slide 2-

Central Nervous System (CNS) Brain and Spinal Cord “Command Central” PNS (Peripheral Nervous System) are nerves that go out to targets in body
Slide 3-

Slide 4-

Counting Body Segments (vertebrae versus nerves) Why are there seven cervical vertebrae but eight cervical nerves?
Slide 5-

Slide 6-

Sagittal View vetebral body, arch intervertebral disc spinal cord spinal nerves (where?)
Slide 7-

Zebra-Man Dermatomes Each is sensory area of one spinal nerve
Slide 8-

Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) All nerves that leave the CNS Two Modalities: Somatic Visceral/Autonomic Sensory/Afferent (info. In) Motor/Efferent (commands out) Somatic Visceral/Autonomic --smooth mm. --heart --glands (hint: SAME) Parasympathetic Sympathetic
Slide 9-

Slide 10-

Sensory Neuron (PNS) (CNS)
Slide 11-

Visceral (Autonomic) Motor Neuron (PNS) (CNS)
Slide 12-

Segmental Spinal nerve (more in Nervous System II)
Slide 13-

Autonomic “Targets” All have dual sympathetic and parasympathetic innervation (more in N.S.II)
