What is self-hypnosis According to a Psychologist’s trusted source, a hypnotic state is one in which an individual, though awake, has more awareness of their inner experiences than their immediate atmosphere. This kind of inner experience might include feelings, thoughts, sensations, and mental imagery. When individuals are in a hypnotic state, they might believe that some of their mental imagery is realistic. Hypnosis therapy is the treatment of maintaining and initiating this mental imagery. It also involves alternating this mind imagery, generally using suggestions that prompt the hypnotized individual to imagine specific things. Improving Yourself Through Self Hypnosis Many people are familiar with the term hypnosis, and for many, it obtains negative feelings because of how Hollywood projects it through B-rated films. The hypnotist portrayed as a pocket-watch-waving professional assuming full control over their subject has been a common portrayal that’s still ingrained in the minds of many. This leads to the question, developing and improving yourself through hypnosis, is it real? With movies showing people being ‘put under’ and sometimes doing questionable things outside their control, it’s no wonder that several people are fearful, or skeptical, of its power to change their lives for the better. The term hypnosis comes from the Greek word ‘ypnos’, which means sleep, and this has caused a misbelief that when you are hypnotized you’re unconscious and asleep. This is simply not the case. Once you are under hypnosis, you enter a deeply relaxed state, but you are in fact awake and aware of everything around you.

It is true that when you are in a hypnotic state you become more susceptible to suggestions, and this where is autosuggestion comes to work. Autosuggestion, also known as autogenic training, is a means by which you can train your subconscious mind to focus on and be open to what is being heard. When trying to improve yourself, this is a good way to get past the mental barriers and doubts that can hold us back from accomplishing our aim or goals. Those concerned about being hypnotized and made to do some kind of thing they do not want to do need not worry, while you may be more susceptible to suggestions being made while in hypnotic situations, you won’t lose the critical defenses and standards you normally have. If you choose to utilize self-hypnosis methods, here are some things to take into consideration to help you get excellent results from your efforts:
Slide 5-

Setting and comfort The first step is to create the correct environment for self-hypnosis, which generally means finding a quiet, secluded spot and removing technological distractions, such as mobile phones. An individual may also want to wear comfortable clothing.

Determine your objectives It’s typically better if you concentrate on one major objective at a time since this helps you put more focus on it, and thereby rise the probability of success. Do you wish to lose a bad habit? Or do you want to excel in a specific field of your academics?

Focus and relaxation Next, an individual should find a state that involves focus and relaxation. They can softly but consistently target or focus on a single point, which will ideally be at eye level. They can then try to relax by breathing slowly and deeply, focusing on inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth. The person can then slowly close their eyes, feeling them get heavier and heavier till it becomes almost impossible to keep them open.

Visualization The next step is to visualize a peaceful and happy scene. It is very important to remain in this scene for some time, attending to its totally different forms or aspects. As this goes on, an individual should begin to imagine a sensation of heaviness spreading over their whole body.
Slide 9-

Revisiting the goal After this point, the person will recall their aim and begin to visualize a scene that exemplifies it. For instance, if the aim is to achieve good sleep, they might imagine themselves peacefully getting to sleep. Alternatively, if the goal is to decrease stress, they might imagine themselves calmly dealing with the situation that triggers their stress. It may also be more helpful to affirm their objective while attending to these images.

Ending the hypnotic state After about 5 or 7 minutes of imagining the goal-directed imagery, it is time to exit the hypnotic state. A hypnotized person will do this by breathing deeply and slowly while imagining more energy entering the body with each and every breath. They may also use a countdown from 5 or 10 to help them exit the hypnotic state. When they feel prepared, they will slowly open their eyes.
