About This Presentation

Description : Check out this medical PowerPoint presentation titled "Impression Techniques of Dental implants”.

This medical PowerPoint presentation is about impression techniques which are critical in obtaining accurate and precise dental implant impressions. Here are some of the common impression techniques used for dental implants:

Closed Tray Impression Technique: This technique involves the use of a transfer coping, which is screwed onto the implant fixture, and a closed tray impression coping. The impression material is placed around the impression coping, and the tray is then seated over the transfer coping. Once the impression material has set, the tray is removed, and the impression coping is unscrewed from the implant fixture.
Open Tray Impression Technique: This technique involves the use of an open tray impression coping, which is screwed onto the implant fixture, and a custom tray. The impression material is placed around the impression coping, and the tray is then seated over the coping. Once the impression material has set, the tray is removed, and the impression coping is unscrewed from the implant fixture.
Splinted Impression Technique: This technique involves connecting the implant fixtures with a rigid impression coping or a splinting material. The impression material is then placed over the coping, and a custom tray is used to obtain the impression. Once the impression material has set, the tray is removed, and the splinted coping is unscrewed from the implant fixtures.
Dynamic Impression Technique: This technique involves the use of a dynamic abutment, which allows for the transfer of the implants orientation and position to the impression material. The impression material is injected around the dynamic abutment, and the tray is then seated over the abutment. Once the impression material has set, the tray is removed, and the dynamic abutment is unscrewed from the implant fixture.

Each technique has its advantages and disadvantages, and the selection of the appropriate impression technique depends on the implant position, angulation, and accessibility, as well as the clinicians experience and preference.

Dental implant Dental implant is a prosthetic device of alloplastic material(s) inserted into the oral tissues to provide retention and support for a fixed or removable prosthesis 2 Osseointegration : direct structural and functional connection between the living bone and the surface of implant without interposition of connective tissue

Impression materials 5 The impression material used should be easy to mix accurate reproduction of details. impression material used should be flexible Enough working time rapidly setting And dimensionally stable following removal from the mouth. The materials that fulfil these criteria are Vinyl polysiloxanes silicones and polyether rubber base impression materials.

IMPRESSION TECHNIQUESImplant impression techniques can be classified as either direct(open tray, pick up) and indirect (closed tray, transfer). 6

Indirect (Closed tray, transfer) technique (a)Exposed fixture head after removal of the healing Abutment (b) closed tray impression coping screwed in place 7

Closed tray technique (c) light bodied impression material syringed around impression coping (d)impression taken in a stock tray. 8

Closed tray technique (e) impression with details of soft tissue around the implant and adjacent teeth (f) impression coping repositioned into the impression 9

10 Snap-On Impression Technique
Slide 11-

Indications1- Limited inter-arch space2- Tendency to gag3- Difficult to access in posterior region Advantages:1. Time saving2. More comfortable for both the clinician and the patient3. Easy to manipulate4. Does not need for especial preparation in the tray 11
Slide 12-

Disadvantages:1. Might be less accurate especially in multiple fixtures.2. With the increased divergent of the posts the impression material might be distorted 12
Slide 13-

Open tray technique (a) impression copings in place, (b)open custom tray with window sealed with wax, (c)impression in place with the tips of the impression copings projecting through the wax window ,(d) the completed impression with the impression copings in situ 13
Slide 14-

14 The direct technique can be further subdivided into splinted and non-splinted techniques. The splinting procedure is recommended in case of multiple implants to decrease the amount of distortion and to improve impression accuracy and implant stability.
Slide 15-

Open tray technique indicated in case of multiple implants and very closely located implants. 15 The advantage of this technique is reduce the errors, more precise. Disadvantages include: Take time Not suitable for pt. with limited inter-arch space, uncooperative pt. and gag pt.

16 Digital Implant Impression More recently, one of the major developments in implant prosthodontics has been the adoption of engineering principles in the form of computer-aided design and computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) to construct implant prosthesis. This technology utilizes 3- D intraoral scanners which alter the way we take impressions .
Slide 17-

17 Requirements of a digital impression The main requirements for the CAD/CAM are (1) the digital scanner (2) software that processes the data and creates a CAD model (3) a production technology that transforms the data set into the desired product by means of CAM
Slide 18-

18 Advantages of the digital impression are as follows: 1.Improved patient acceptance. 2. Reduced distortion of impression materials. 3. time effectiveness
Slide 19-

Accuracy of impression Many factors determine the accuracy of an impression: Number of implants Position of implants Impression material Clinical training 19
