How to Stop a Panic Attack Adrenaline floods the body during a panic attack, causing a variety of physical, mental, and emotional symptoms. We can show you how to calm yourself or a loved one down and stop a panic attack, which can be a frightening experience. You can currently help yourself overcome panic attacks by using the following strategies:
Slide 4-

1. Find a peaceful spot A panic attack can often be exacerbated by sights and sounds. Try to find a quieter spot if you can. This could mean moving to lean against a nearby wall or leaving a busy room. It will be easier to concentrate on breathing and other coping mechanisms if you sit in a quiet location, which will also give you some mental space.

2. Take deep breaths Breathing during a panic attack can be rapid, and chest tightness can make the breaths shallow. This kind of breathing can exacerbate sentiments. Instead, try to focus on each breath while taking a slow, deep breath. While counting to four on both the inhale and the exhale take a deep breath from the abdomen and slowly and steadily fill the lungs.

People can also try the "relaxing breath," also known as 4-7-8 breathing. The person uses this method by inhaling for four seconds, holding their breath for seven seconds, and then slowly exhaling for eight seconds. It's important to remember that deep breathing can exacerbate panic attacks for some people. In these instances, the individual may attempt to concentrate on engaging in a hobby.

3. Know that you got panic attack As long as you are unaware that you are having a panic attack, it is beneficial. When you realize that you are having a panic attack, you can take the necessary steps to control it. You need to know that this time will pass for this reason. Stopping a panic attack can be aided by maintaining emotional stability, exercising emotional control, and removing the fear that something bad is about to happen to you.

4. Take any prescribed medications A medication that can be taken as needed may be prescribed by psychologist, depending on the severity of the attacks. Most of the time, these medicines work quickly. A beta-blocker or benzodiazepine can be found in some. A beta-blocker like propranolol slows down a racing heart and lowers blood pressure. Valium and Xanax are two examples of benzodiazepines that are frequently prescribed by doctors for panic attacks.

However, people should only take these medications as prescribed by their psychologist or doctor because they can be highly addictive. When taken with alcohol or opioids, they can have potentially fatal side effects. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, which can assist in preventing panic attacks in the first place, may also be described by a physician.

What Are the Treatments for Panic Attacks? Throughout our lives, many of us may experience one or two brief panic attacks that do not result in anything else. However, some people experience them more frequently. Here are some immediate steps you can take to assist someone who you suspect is having a panic attack: Ask what you can do for them. Reassure them that the attack probably won't last long. Encourage them to breathe evenly and slowly. Avoid downplaying their symptoms.

If they have ever experienced a panic attack, inquire about what helped them get through it. If you are unable to calm them, you should see a psychologist right away. Depression, agoraphobia (fear of open or public spaces), or substance abuse may result from multiple panic attacks. See a doctor if you've had multiple attacks. They can be stopped a lot with treatment. Psychologist doctors Most of the time, treat panic attacks by prescribing psychological therapy, hypnotherapy, and medication. Try to be patient because the path you and your doctor choose will take time to work. The vast majority of patients experience relief and no long-term issues when they adhere to their treatment plan.
