Slide 2-

WHAT IS HEART FAILURE?
Slide 3-

DEFINITION inability of the heart to keep up with the metabolic demands of the body. INABILITY OF HEART TO KEEP UP WITH THE METABOLIC DEMANDS OF THE BODY.
Slide 4-

chf Fluid builds up in the lungs because the heart cannot contract well enough or relax well enough to prevent backup of fluid.
Slide 5-

Poor cardiac contractionunable to maintain bp HYPOTENSION: BP less than approximately 90/60.
Slide 6-

Ejection fraction VOLUME OF BLOOD EJECTED _________________________ (DIVIDED BY) TOTAL VOLUME FROM THE LEFT VENTRICLE
Slide 7-

EXAMPLE 65 cc/ 100cc = 65%.
