About This Presentation

Description : Check out this medical PowerPoint presentation titled "Fetal Development”.

This medical PowerPoint presentation is about fetal development, the growth and maturation of a fetus from the time of conception until birth. It is a complex process that involves the development of different organs and systems in the body.

The process of fetal development can be divided into three main stages: the germinal stage, the embryonic stage, and the fetal stage.

Germinal stage: This stage begins at fertilization and lasts for about 2 weeks. During this stage, the zygote (fertilized egg) undergoes multiple cell divisions and travels down the fallopian tube towards the uterus, where it implants in the uterine wall. The developing structure is called a blastocyst at this point.
Embryonic stage: This stage begins after implantation and lasts from the third to the eighth week of gestation. During this stage, the embryo undergoes rapid cell division and differentiation, forming the three germ layers (ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm) that will give rise to all of the bodys organs and tissues. The embryo develops a primitive heart, brain, spinal cord, and other vital organs. By the end of the embryonic stage, the embryo is about 1 inch long and has most of its major organs and structures.
Fetal stage: This stage begins at the end of the embryonic stage and lasts from the ninth week until birth. During this stage, the fetus undergoes further growth and development, and its organs and systems continue to mature and become functional. The fetus gains weight and length and develops its musculoskeletal, respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems. By the end of the fetal stage, the fetus is fully developed and ready to be born.

Throughout fetal development, the fetus is vulnerable to environmental factors such as nutrition, drugs, and exposure to toxins. Adequate prenatal care, including regular medical check-ups, proper nutrition, and avoidance of harmful substances, can help ensure a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

Slide 1-

KEY CONCEPT Development progresses in stages from zygote to fetus.
Slide 2-

The fertilized egg implants into the uterus and is nourished by the placenta and umbilical cord. ectoderm develops into skin and nervous system The zygote becomes a blastocyst and implants in the uterus. mesoderm develops into Internal tissues and organs endoderm develops into digestive organs and their lining
Slide 3-

The blastocyst becomes an embryo. Embryonic membranes protect and nourish the embryo. amniotic sac cushions embryo. placenta connects mother and embryo. umbilical cord connects embryo to placenta.
Slide 4-

A zygote develops into a fully formed fetus in about 38 weeks. Human pregnancies are divided into trimesters. 1st trimester: body plan and early development
Slide 5-

2nd trimester: fetus more active, developed
Slide 6-

3rd trimester: all organs fully formed After about 38 weeks, fetus is ready to be born.
Slide 7-

The mother affects the fetus, and pregnancy affects the mother. The fetus depends on the mother for all its nutrition. mother's diet must support fetal health mother must avoid toxic chemicals
Slide 8-

The mother’s health is affected by pregnancy in a number of ways. increase in Calories and body weight pregnancy hormones affecting homeostasis regular medical checkups needed
