Housing Link between poor housing and health Increased length of exposure to poor housing leads to worsened health Overcrowding: increased risk of infectious disease including tuberculosis .Affects mental well-being, depression, stress Unsafe outside, unhealthy inside
Slide 3-

Housing Excess winter mortality, poor ventilation, increased respiratory infections Mold: respiratory problems, asthma, allergies, eczema Indoor pollutants and infestation: asthma
Slide 4-

Is free from unsafe physical factors due to construction or maintenance and from toxic or harmful materials. Encourage personal and community development, promotes social relationships, reflects a regard for ecological principles and by these means promotes mental health
Slide 7-

Slide 8-

Walls: Strong, Low heat capacity, Weather resistant. Not suitable for breeding of rats, pests Roof: Height ,not less than 10 feet
Slide 9-

Rooms: Living rooms not less than 2, at least 1 out which can be closed for security Area according to people residing Floor area: At least more than 120 sq ft if more than one person living Per person area should not be less than 50 sq ft Cubic space: At least 500 cu ft preferably 1000 per person
Slide 10-

Windows: Unless mechanical ventilation & artificial lighting are provided, every room should have at least 2 windows & one of them should open directly into open space. Height should not be more than 3 feet above ground Lighting: Daylight factor should exceed 1 percent over half the floor area
Slide 11-

Kitchen :Each dwelling must have a separate kitchen Protected against dust & germs Garbage and refuse Should be removed at least daily Bathing and washing Exclusive & private Water supply Safe and adequate
Slide 12-

Indicators of Housing Physical Height, floor area, air, light etc Economic indicators,Cost incurred Social indicators,Related to frequency of illnesses & to mental health of individuals
Slide 13-

Noise pollution What is noise pollution? Decibel- a dimensionless unit used for values on a scale. Intensity -the rate that energy is transferred through a unit area of the plane wave Threshold- minimum of sound level of a pure tone that an average ear with normal hearing can hear with no other sound present Threshold of pain- the point in which pain begins to be felt Noise Pollution is… A loud noise interrupting someone’s regular sound waves. (unwanted or uncomfortable sound to the ear)
Slide 14-

What are some examples of noise pollution? Examples: A phone Sirens ,A plane taking off, A book being slammed, A balloon popping, Someone screaming, A loud clap, DJ or a band Dog barking, Car blasting music
