About This Presentation

Description : Check out this medical titled "Disease Transmission”.

This medical is about disease transmission, the process by which an infectious disease spreads from one individual or population to another.

There are several modes of disease transmission, including Direct contact transmission, Indirect contact transmission, Droplet transmission, Airborne transmission, and Vector-borne transmission.

Preventing disease transmission involves a combination of strategies, including vaccination, hand hygiene, wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and controlling vectors. Proper sanitation and disinfection practices are also important in preventing the spread of infectious diseases.

Forms of Disease Clinical acute sub-acute Non-clinical (Inapparent) pre-clinical sub-clinical chronic (persistent) latent Your Assignment: familiarize yourself with the definitions of these terms
Slide 10-

Disease Investigation Establish diagnosis Identify specific agent Describe according to person, place and time Identify source of agent Identify mode of transmission Identify susceptible populations
Slide 11-

Steps in the Investigation of an Epidemic Define the epidemic Examination the distribution of cases Look for combinations of variables Develop hypothesis (es) Test hypothesis Recommend control measures
Slide 12-

Determinants of Disease Outbreak Based on balance of disease in a population herd immunity disease restricted to single host transmission must be relatively direct
Slide 13-

Effect of Herd Immunity
Slide 14-

Incubation Period The period of time after an infection is established but before the first signs or symptoms appear Different diseases generally have different incubation times and symptoms Therefore, can derive epidemic curves
