Women taking ART should consult with their healthcare provider to determine if hormonal contraceptives are safe and effective for them.
Intrauterine devices (IUDs): IUDs are a safe and effective long-acting contraceptive option for women with HIV infection who are not taking ART or who have achieved viral suppression.
Fertility awareness-based methods: Fertility awareness-based methods involve tracking a womans menstrual cycle to determine when she is most fertile and avoiding sexual activity during that time. These methods can be used by women with HIV infection who are not trying to conceive and who are not taking ART.
Sterilization: Sterilization, such as tubal ligation or vasectomy, is a permanent method of contraception for couples who do not want to have children in the future.

It is important for women with HIV infection and their partners to discuss their contraceptive options with their healthcare provider and choose a method that is safe, effective, and meets their individual needs and preferences. Consistent and correct use of effective contraception can help prevent unintended pregnancies and reduce the risk of HIV transmission.
