When an odontogenic infection spreads to the deep neck spaces, it can cause swelling, pain, difficulty swallowing, and difficulty breathing. It can also cause fever, chills, and other systemic symptoms.

Treatment for odontogenic infections that have spread to the pharynx or deep neck spaces usually involves a combination of antibiotics, surgical drainage of abscesses, and supportive care to manage symptoms. In severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary. Prevention of odontogenic infections involves good oral hygiene practices, regular dental check-ups, and prompt treatment of dental problems such as cavities and gum disease.
